The rights of LGBT Californians and other minorities are under attack, and we must make our voices heard!
Join Equality California, the ACLU, APLA Health, GSA Network, LA LGBT Center, Lambda Legal, Positive Women Network, Project Inform, NCLR, SF AIDS Foundation, and the Transgender Law Center for LGBT Advocacy Day in the State Capitol on May 16, 2017 and lend your voice to help pass critical civil rights and social justice legislation!
When: Tuesday, May 16, 2017
Time: 9:00am - 5:00pm
Where: California State Capitol, Sacramento, CA
We will be lobbying on a variety of issues important to the LGBT community including healthcare, education, HIV/AIDS, and transgender rights. We will also be focusing on additional intersectional issues such as criminal justice and immigration reform.
LGBT Advocacy Day participants will receive training on legislative priorities and how to advocate for these priorities. Every participant will then engage in face-to-face meetings with California legislators and their staff, urging them to pass critical legislation that will protect and expand the civil liberties of all Californians.
Registration is $25, which includes lunch, training, and the legislative office visits. High school and college students can register for free, here. Participants will be expected to find transportation to and from Sacramento on Tuesday, May 16th. Please arrive no later than 9:00am.
Travel Grant Information:
Equality California is committed to engaging diverse communities across California. Priority will be given those most in need, people living with HIV, young adults, people of color, and people from rural areas. Participants can apply for a limited number of roundtrip travel grants for the day, here.
It is crucial that we make our voices heard in Sacramento so California can continue to lead the way on LGBT civil rights and protections. Join us and our partners to raise awareness about critical healthcare and social justice priorities for the LGBT community and all communities impacted by the Trump Administration.
